Khiva is a medium-size city in Uzbekistan with growing population and rising numbers of tourists arriving each year. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ichan Kala, is the historical city center which is still inhabited today. The need for improvement of infrastructures for the local population and the requirements of tourism development are two major influential factors in urban development. As the international consultant for land use planning, superwien has assessed the current state of spatial development of the region and the city. Applying dialogue-oriented planning methods, development vision and strategies as well as priority key projects have been elaborated.
