This is a series of three memorials for the 705 social and environmental activists that have been selectively murdered during the last 3 years in Colombia.
On the 7th of August 2018, in Vienna downtown, we got together to build a cemetery with small crosses and names written on the floor along “Blutgasse” (street of blood), in memory of the 345 social and environmental activists that have been selectively murdered during the last 2 years in Colombia.
In November 2018 we went to a place called Am Himmel (In the Heaven). A seed was planted for every social leader murdered; we used crosses to make a fence in order to protect the plants during winter.
After winter, we returned to see the blossomed garden and to remember each of the murdered activists and their struggles for territory, environment and life.
From September 2016 to June 2019, 702 social and environmental activists were murdered in Colombia.
Since the possession of the elected president Iván Duque, in less than a year, 51% of the murders have been committed.
The government of President Iván Duque and the goverent party
has refused to acknowledge the genocide against activists,
has attacked the peace agreement,
has refused to implement the signed peace agreements,
has approved fracking, mining in natural reserves,
aerial spraying of coca crops with glyphosate
and promotes extractivist projects without any social consultation.
His policies and public speeches towards this genocide make him and his government responsible for omission.
